Solid Propulsion

What We Do:

The Manufacturing Subteam gets down to the nuts and bolts of Solid Propulsion: rocket fuel. We mix, cure, and cast “Illini Orange” fuel into solid rocket motor grains of different shapes and sizes, depending on the use case. The past year has been spent preparing our propellant formula, identifying and mitigating risks, and improving our manufacturing process to have more efficient motors, optimization, and an overall better process.
