AE 199 - Introduction to Rocketry

A class for students, by students

Each fall, ISS hosts a university-sanctioned 2-credit-hour class. Open to all majors, AE 199 ITR is an opportunity for students to get hands-on technical experience right at the beginning of their college career. Students who take this class will learn the basics of rocket design and structures as well as gain experience in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Printed Circuit Board (PCB), and flight software development.

Student teams design and build high-powered rockets, culminating in a launch at the end of the semester. This prepares them to work on other ISS technical projects and serves as an introduction to aerospace engineering as a whole. The course staff is entirely comprised of ISS members with extensive technical experience.
